ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As Western North Carolina hosts gear up for New Year’s celebrations, charcuterie boards are emerging as a simple, crowd-pleasing option for entertaining and gift-giving.

Once considered a feature of formal events, charcuterie boards have become popular for casual gatherings, office parties and family celebrations. Pre-arranged boards allow hosts to spend less time in the kitchen while still providing an attractive centerpiece filled with shareable foods such as cheeses, cured meats, fruits, spreads and specialty snacks.

Local charcuterie makers say demand increases during the holiday season and into the New Year, as people look for convenient yet festive options. Ready-made boards can be customized for different group sizes and dietary preferences, making them suitable for everything from small gatherings to larger celebrations, according to Asheville Charcuterie Co.

Charcuterie boards are also gaining popularity as New Year’s gifts, offering an alternative to traditional sweets or wine. Many boards feature locally made items such as jams, olives, popcorn and hot sauces, allowing gift-givers to support area businesses while giving something that can be shared immediately, Asheville Charcuterie Co. said.

In addition to full-sized boards, smaller individual portions such as cups or boxes are becoming common, making it easy to serve guests in open-house style settings. Some local businesses also offer workshops, teaching participants how to assemble their own boards for future gatherings.

As the holiday season winds down and New Year’s celebrations begin, charcuterie boards continue to stand out as a practical and crowd-pleasing way to simplify entertaining while adding a polished touch to any gathering.
