ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Communities across Western North Carolina are holding events Tuesday to honor military veterans.
The Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at its campus on Tunnel Road. The formal observance is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for parking.
John Mason, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts, will deliver the keynote address. Video of the ceremony will be available at 3 p.m. on the City of Asheville’s YouTube channel.
In Black Mountain, the town’s Veterans Day Parade will begin at 2 p.m. along State Street in the downtown district. The parade will include veterans, marching bands, and military vehicles. Spectators are encouraged to bring seating, as the event usually draws large crowds.
Col. John Hoffman, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot who served in South Vietnam following the withdrawal of most American troops, will serve as grand marshal for this year’s parade.
