ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Showers and thunderstorms are expected across Western North Carolina on Monday afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for isolated to scattered flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service and North Carolina Emergency Management.

Forecasters said the wet weather pattern will continue through the week, with typical summertime afternoon storms possible each day.

In Asheville, scattered showers are expected before noon, followed by more widespread rain and possible thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Highs will reach around 80 degrees with light winds. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent, with higher rainfall amounts possible in storms.

Monday night will bring lingering showers and patchy fog, with lows near 68. Rain chances remain at 60 percent.

On Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly in the afternoon, with highs near 81. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, and storms could produce brief heavy rain.

Similar conditions are expected Wednesday, with an 80 percent chance of storms and highs in the mid-80s. Rain chances remain elevated through Friday, with some breaks of sun between showers.

Authorities urge residents to remain alert for changing conditions and to avoid driving through flooded roadways.
