ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Scouting America’s Family Fun Fest will return to Asheville this month, offering families a free day of hands-on activities and outdoor adventure.

The event, hosted by the Daniel Boone Council of Scouting America, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Tanger Outlets Asheville. Admission and activities are free.

Organizers said more than 50 interactive exhibits and experiences will be available, including pinewood derby races, a rope bridge anchored by two Asheville fire trucks, a raingutter regatta, backyard fishing and firebuilding demonstrations. Families can also explore a pool set up for canoeing, a living history “Boonesboro Village” from the 1700s and exhibits from the U.S. Army, Air Force and Space Command.

Children can also enjoy crafts, face painting, and performances, while food vendors including Hit the Pit BBQ, Kettle Corn and Pelican’s Snoballs will be on site. The festival will also feature a school supply drive for local students.

“Family Fun Fest is more than just a great day out — it’s a celebration of adventure, learning and community,” said Joshua Christ, CEO of the Daniel Boone Council.

The event comes as Scouting America — formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America — continues to expand its programs for boys and girls across Western North Carolina. Local scouts and leaders said the organization’s activities, from high adventure trips to merit badge programs, help young people build confidence, leadership skills and lifelong friendships.

The Daniel Boone Council serves youths across 14 counties in Western North Carolina. For more information about the event, visit FamilyFunFestWNC.com.
