ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two recalled Laura Lynn hand soaps were sold at Ingles stores across the company’s footprint, but Ingles says the products have been off its shelves since July.

Ingles Markets told 828newsNOW on Friday that all of its stores received at least some of the affected soap. The Asheville-based grocer said it removed 1,714 units from store shelves after being notified of the voluntary recall July 7.

That included 650 units of Laura Lynn Foaming Pear Scent Hand Soap and 1,064 units of Laura Lynn Honey Apple Crisp Liquid Hand Soap.

Customers who still have soap from the affected lots can return it to Ingles for a full refund, even without a receipt, the company said.

Ingles also said it has received no reports of illnesses or adverse reactions associated with the recalled products.

The two Laura Lynn products are part of an ongoing recall involving six hand soaps manufactured by Intercon Chemical Co. of St. Louis because of potential bacterial contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The affected Laura Lynn products are:

  • Laura Lynn Honey Apple Crisp Liquid Hand Soap, 8 fluid ounces, UPC 086854074305. The affected lot codes are C3576 and 26-01804. The FDA lists one best-by date as Nov. 5, 2026, while the other appears in its database only as “03/28.”
  • Laura Lynn Foaming Pear Scent Hand Soap with Moisturizers, 7.5 fluid ounces, UPC 08685407408. The affected lot code is 26-01001, with a best-by date of March 13, 2028.

The FDA lists 301 cases of the Honey Apple Crisp soap and 294 cases of the Foaming Pear soap as part of the recall.

Intercon initiated the voluntary recall June 29, according to the FDA. Ingles Chief Financial Officer Pat Jackson said the manufacturer notified Ingles on July 7 and the company removed the affected products from all stores that day.

Jackson said stores were instructed to provide full refunds for products with the affected lot codes, even if customers did not have receipts. Ingles also posted information about the recall on its Facebook page within an hour of notifying its stores, he said.

The FDA classified the recall as Class II on Sept. 11. The agency uses that designation when a product could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, or when the chance of serious health consequences is considered remote.

FDA records list the reason for the Laura Lynn recall as potential bacterial contamination but do not identify a specific type of bacteria for those products.

For two Intercon-branded soaps included in the broader recall, the FDA specifically identifies potential contamination with several species of Pseudomonas and Serratia bacteria. The FDA record does not say those same bacteria were found in the Laura Lynn products.

The FDA says products involved in the overall recall were distributed to 20 consignees — 19 wholesalers and one retailer — in several states, including North Carolina and South Carolina.

The recall remains ongoing.
