ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Police Department officers have investigated a West Asheville vehicle collision that has resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
Around 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16. APD officers responded to reports of a crash and injured pedestrian near exit 44 on I-40 West.
According to the preliminary investigation, Daniel Gardner, 44, walked into the travel lanes of the interstate before being struck by a tractor-trailer, the drive of which remained on the scene. Gardner was transported to Mission Hospital and died there from his injuries. Next of kin has been notified.
Upon completion of the APD investigation, along with consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, no charges will be filed against the driver.
