More than 14 grams of meth seized in downtown Asheville arrest

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Charles Wade Steiner, 62, and Samantha Mariah Scott, 35, were arrested by the Asheville Police Department on open warrants last Sunday.

Around 11:01 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 9, an APD foot patrol arrested Steiner and Scott on Haywood Street. During the arrest, Steiner was found in possession of drugs, including 14.24 grams of methamphetamine and 0.99 grams of marijuana.

Steiner had an open warrant for second degree trespassing, and was additionally charged with:

  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver, Schedule II
  • Felony possession of Schedule II
  • Felony manufacture, sell, deliver, produced controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park
  • Misdemeanor simple possession of Schedule VI
  • Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor second degree trespass
  • City ordinance violation – No camping on city property
  • City ordinance violation – Consumption and possession of malt beverages or unfortified wine

Steiner was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $10,200 secured bond issued by a magistrate.

Scott also had an open warrant for second degree trespassing, and was charged with an additional count of misdemeanor second degree trespassing and city ordinance violation – no camping on city property.
