ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — If you’re thinking about a career change or looking for a job in Western North Carolina, a hiring event this week could offer a place to start.

The WNC Career Expo is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the WNC Ag Center, bringing together employers from across the region.

Co-hosted by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature a wide range of companies hiring for open positions, along with resources for people who want to improve their resumes or interview skills.

According to Diana J. Blackett, director of workforce partnerships for the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County, the event is for active job seekers and anyone interested in making connections or exploring new career paths.

If you plan to attend, preparing ahead of time can make a difference.

Reviewing the list of participating employers in advance can help you focus your time on companies that match your interests and skills. Arriving early may also give you more time to speak with recruiters.

Having a clear and concise pitch ready can help you stand out. Bringing printed copies of your resume is recommended, along with being prepared to share it digitally.

The event will also include career resource hubs throughout the expo floor. With support from organizations such as Western North Carolina Human Resources Association, Goodwill and NC Works, these hubs will offer resume reviews, interview preparation, and career readiness guidance.

What happens after the event matters, too. Following up with employers within a couple of days can help reinforce connections and keep you top of mind as interview and hiring decisions are made.

Additional details, including participating employers and event information, are available here on the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce website.
