Local city, county government offices to close for Fourth of July weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Fourth of July holiday is just around the corner. While Western North Carolina prepares for fireworks, cookouts and other red, white and blue festivities, local government offices will be closed.

Fourth of July closures

Asheville

In Asheville, city offices will be closed for the weekend beginning on Friday, July 3.

City community centers, administrative offices, Riverside Cemetery offices and the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville box office will also be closed on Friday.

Almost every other city service will operate on a regular schedule for the holiday, except for Asheville Rides Transit buses, which will run on the 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday schedule on Saturday, July 4.

In accommodation of the Independence Day Block Party, Saturday, July 4, in the South Slope district of downtown Asheville, several streets will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking:

7 a.m. to midnight

  • Coxe Avenue from Hilliard Avenue to Millard Avenue
  • Banks Avenue from Coxe Avenue to Church Street
  • Buxton Avenue from Coxe Avenue to Millard Avenue

5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

  • Asheland Avenue from Hilliard Avenue to Southside Avenue

Buncombe County

Across Buncombe County, Buncombe County government offices will be closed on Friday, July 3.

Closed offices will include:

  • Buncombe County Animal Shelter
  • Buncombe County Board of Elections
  • Buncombe County Courthouse
  • Buncombe County public libraries
  • Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office front desk
  • City/County Bureau of Identification
  • Family Justice Center
  • Government Services Center
  • Health & Human Services
  • One Buncombe Call Center
  • Parks & Recreation administrative offices
  • Register of Deeds
  • Tax Collections/Property Assessment

All Buncombe County public parks and swimming pools will be open with regular hours on July 3.

Though the Emergency Services & Public Safety Communications administrative offices will be closed on July 3, EMS and 911 will maintain normal operations.

Mountain Mobility will offer City of Asheville Complementary Paratransit Services on July 3, but no other trips will be served.

The Buncombe County Landfill and Transfer Station will operate as usual on Friday, July 3, but will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

Henderson County

In Henderson County, all local government offices and the Henderson County Courthouse will be closed on Friday, July 3.

Other closures will include:

  • Henderson County Animal Services Center, July 3-6
  • Henderson County Public Library, July 3-6
  • Transfer Station and Convenience Center, July 4

Emergency services will not be impacted by the holiday.

All Henderson County Parks will be also be open.
