MORGANTON, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The U.S. Forest Service began repairs Monday on Helene-damaged areas along the western side of Linville Gorge in the Grandfather Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest.

The work, prompted by damage from Tropical Storm Helene, will focus on removing debris, repairing roads and facilities, grading and resurfacing parking areas, removing hazard trees and installing new guardrails.

To allow crews to safely complete the work, visitors can expect temporary closures over the next several weeks along the Old N.C. 105 corridor, including Pinch In, Conley Cove, Wiseman’s View, Babel Tower, Cabin, Bynum Bluff, Pine Gap, Linville Falls, Falls and Cabin Site trailheads.

Forest officials said the closures are necessary to address safety hazards left by the storm.
