OLD FORT, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Motorists traveling Interstate 40 through Old Fort should expect temporary ramp closures Sunday evening as crews continue paving and striping work on Old Fort Mountain.

The work is scheduled to begin around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Exits 72 and 73, according to the Town of Old Fort.

Crews will start at Exit 72 before moving to Exit 73. Only one ramp will be closed at a time while paving and striping work is underway.

The town said it is working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to receive advance notice of future ramp closures and improve signage for motorists approaching closed exits.

Motorists traveling through the area should allow extra time for their trips and be alert for changing traffic conditions.

The work is part of ongoing paving and striping operations on I-40 at Old Fort Mountain.
