ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Drivers on Interstate 26 should prepare for multiple overnight closures this week as crews shut down several miles of the highway in both directions, according to the Asheville Fire Department.

The closures will run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., though officials say start times may shift based on traffic and weather conditions.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 17, and continuing through Thursday, Nov. 20, I-26 will be fully closed eastbound from Exits 33 to 37 and westbound from Exits 37 to 31. Each night’s work will require a complete shutdown of those stretches, the department said.

Detours will be in place

Eastbound detour (Sunday-Thursday): Drivers will exit at 33 (Brevard Road), follow NC 191 South to NC 146 (Long Shoals Road), and re-enter I-26 at Exit 40.

Westbound detour (Sunday-Thursday): Traffic will exit at 37 (Long Shoals Road), take NC 146 East to U.S. 25 North (Hendersonville Road), and follow it to I-40.

Officials encouraged drivers to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time.
