ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville’s holiday season will begin Nov. 22 with the return of the city’s Holiday Parade, part of a season-long downtown celebration announced by the Asheville Downtown Association and the City of Asheville.

The parade, themed “Toyshop Whimsy,” will serve as the kickoff for Winter in Downtown, a lineup of events and activities aimed at supporting local businesses and drawing residents and visitors into the city’s core.

This year’s festivities will include downtown light displays, a storefront window decorating contest, “Shop Small, Win Big” promotions for local shoppers and a series of seasonal celebrations such as tree lightings and pop-up markets.

Mayor Esther Manheimer said the city is proud to partner on the initiative.

“Together, we are creating vibrant traditions that bring joy, connect our community, and showcase Downtown as a welcoming destination,” she said in a statement.

Asheville Downtown Association Executive Director Hayden Plemmons added that the programming also strengthens the local economy.

“These events play a critical role in supporting the economic resiliency of Downtown businesses while offering magical experiences for our community and visitors alike,” he said.

More information, including how to participate in the Holiday Parade or other activities, is available here.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary."
