ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A federal fugitive wanted for decades in connection with a $1.3 million armored car theft in Florida has been identified following his death in Asheville late last year, authorities said.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday the man, identified as John Anthony Quinn, died of natural causes in December at an Asheville hospital.

Quinn, who was 48 at the time of the crime, was wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and by the state of Florida on a charge of first-degree grand theft.

Authorities said Quinn was accused of stealing $1.3 million in cash from an armored car company vault in April 1988 in Riviera Beach, Florida. He had been employed as a manager with the company at the time of the theft.

Investigators said Quinn used multiple aliases over the years, including Dale Calvin Cluckey, Dale Clucke, Jack Quinn and James Sullivan. He was identified as Jim Klein at the time of his death.

The FBI Laboratory’s Latent Prints Unit confirmed Quinn’s identity through fingerprint analysis. Officials with FBI Miami and FBI Charlotte credited the SBI and the Asheville Police Department for their assistance in the case.

Quinn had been featured on the television programs Unsolved Mysteries and America’s Most Wanted.
