Crash closes lane on I-26 near Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A crash shut down part of Interstate 26 on Friday afternoon, causing significant traffic delays for drivers heading west near Asheville.

The crash occurred in the left lane between Haywood Road and Jackson’s Curve, near mile marker 2. Authorities closed the left lane at Exit 2, U.S. 19/23 Business (Haywood Road), leaving only one of two lanes open.

Officials reported the expected impact to traffic was high as congestion quickly built in the area. The lane closure began around 2:23 p.m. and was expected to last until approximately 3:23 p.m.

Drivers were urged to use caution and consider alternate routes while crews worked to clear the scene.
