Cooler weather to stick around through Labor Day

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Western North Carolina residents can expect more fall-like temperatures to start September, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

High pressure will dominate the region Friday, with a weak cold front moving through Saturday and settling south of the area into early next week. Forecasters say isolated to scattered afternoon and early evening showers and storms are possible each day, especially in the mountains. Overall, temperatures will remain slightly below seasonal averages.

Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 82 degrees and calm winds becoming north-northwest at 6 mph in the afternoon. Overnight lows are expected to drop to around 58 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high near 81 and light winds. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with lows near 58.

Sunday carries a 40 percent chance of afternoon and early evening showers and storms, with a high near 78. Overnight, a 30 percent chance of showers continues before 8 p.m., with lows near 58.

Labor Day will see a 40 percent chance of afternoon showers and storms, with highs around 73 and mostly cloudy conditions overnight, with lows near 57.
