ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County property owners have until 1 p.m. today to appeal their property assessments, when the county’s Board of Equalization and Review is scheduled to adjourn.

Property Assessor Eric Cregger said residents who believe their assessed value is inaccurate or that their property record contains errors should submit an appeal before the deadline.

“If you feel your assessed value does not accurately reflect your property or there are errors on your property record card, there is still time to appeal,” Cregger said.

Cregger said property owners who do not yet have all supporting documentation ready should still file an appeal and note that additional information will be submitted later. Owners have 30 days after filing to provide supporting materials.

More than 13,000 Buncombe County residents have submitted appeals so far, according to the assessor’s office.

Officials say it may take 30 to 60 days for staff to review each appeal.

The county provides online tools to help property owners through the process, including a sales comparison tool, appeal forms and property record card access. Residents can find more information at the county’s website or contact the Property Assessment office by phone with questions.
