BREVARD, N.C. (828newsNOW) — After a weekend of music, food, shopping and more than a few rain showers, White Squirrel Weekend wrapped up Sunday in downtown Brevard, drawing residents and visitors together to celebrate one of the town’s most unusual claims to fame.

The annual festival transformed downtown streets into a bustling gathering place filled with live entertainment, local artisans, food vendors and family-friendly activities, all inspired by the rare white squirrels that have become a beloved symbol of the Transylvania County community.

Organized by Heart of Brevard with the help of hundreds of volunteers, the event continued despite periods of wet weather, with festival organizers encouraging attendees to embrace the rain and keep the celebration going.

For many visitors, White Squirrel Weekend offered a chance to experience Brevard’s distinctive blend of small-town hospitality, mountain culture and quirky tradition. Vendors lined downtown streets, musicians performed throughout the weekend, and squirrel-themed merchandise could be found around nearly every corner.

The festival has grown into one of Brevard’s signature annual events, attracting longtime residents and tourists eager to catch a glimpse of the town’s famous white squirrels while supporting local businesses.
