ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As the Biltmore Championship Asheville approaches this fall, the PGA TOUR golf tournament has announced a grant program for nonprofit organizations in Buncombe County.

Buncombe County nonprofits are invited to apply for two $10,000 grants. One, Conservation and Sustainability, is intended for groups that protect the natural world of Buncombe County. The second, Creative Spirit, is for nonprofits that contribute to the arts, culture and humanities of the Asheville region.

Grant applications opened on Wednesday, July 1, and will be available through Friday, July 31. Apply here.

“As we build this event in Asheville, it’s important that we’re also investing in the community around us,” said Nate Goldsnider, Biltmore Championship Asheville event director. “This program gives us a way to support the organizations already doing great work across Buncombe County.”

Application eligibility

There are several criteria that prospective applicants must meet in order to be considered for either grant.

According to Biltmore Championship Asheville, the Conservation and Sustainability grant “supports initiatives that protect, preserve and enhance the natural assets that define the Asheville region. This may include and is not limited to efforts focused on: land conservation, clean water initiatives, biodiversity protection, air quality improvement, carbon reduction strategies, preservation of working farmlands, waste diversion, recycling, circularity, food recovery and materials management.”

Meanwhile, the Creative Spirit grant “celebrates and supports the stories of creators and makers who help define and differentiate the Asheville destination. This includes, but is not limited to, contributions across food and beverage innovation, visual and performing arts, cultural and experiential offerings and other creative expressions that enrich the community and historic preservation.”

Qualifying applicants will:

  • Be based in Buncombe County, North Carolina
  • Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, government entity, such as law enforcement or fire departments, or an educational institution like K-12 schools, colleges and universities
  • Practice and provide services without discrimination as protected by law
