ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting at Maple Crest Apartments at Lee Walker Heights that left a man with minor gunshot wounds and damaged multiple vehicles.

APD detectives are investigating the shooting, which occurred early on Sunday, July 5, at the South Slope apartment complex.

According to a police press release, APD officers responded to gun discharge reports around 4:49 a.m., July 5, at Lee Garden Lane. Upon arrival, the officers spotted a vehicle driving at high speeds and disregard to traffic signals. The vehicle soon arrived at Mission Hospital, located around one mile from the crime scene.

“The vehicle had sustained damage from gunfire, and one passenger was suffering from a minor gunshot wound to the shoulder,” APD reported. “The victim was treated for their injury.”

APD said that detectives and forensic technicians discovered a “large crime scene” at the original call location, collecting evidence like shell casings and noting two vehicles damaged by gunfire.
