ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville officials are inviting residents to learn more about the process for converting existing spaces, such as garages or backyard sheds, into accessory dwelling units, also known as ADUs.

The city will hold two information sessions in September to explain the rules for turning non-conforming structures into ADUs and to gather public input on how to make the process less costly and more accessible for homeowners.

A virtual meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10, with a recording to be posted later on YouTube. An in-person session will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 18 at the East Asheville Library.

More details, including registration information, are available here.
