ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Christian Academy has donated $300,000 to support disaster home repairs for low-income families in Swannanoa affected by Tropical Storm Helene, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity announced Thursday.

The funding will go to the Asheville Regional Coalition for Home Repair, a partnership that includes Habitat for Humanity, and is expected to help complete about 10 home repair projects in the area.

The donation stems from a tithe from Asheville Christian Academy’s capital campaign to rebuild its campus, following earlier support the school received from the community.

The check was presented at a Swannanoa home undergoing repairs through the coalition’s program.

At least seven repair projects have already been contracted and are in various stages of completion, according to Habitat officials. The work includes extensive interior and exterior repairs, along with water damage mitigation.

“It’s wonderful to see Asheville Christian Academy … recognizing the need and stepping up with this level of funding to serve their neighbors,” said Joel Johnson, home repair director at Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. “We’re grateful that our mission aligns with their vision of how they want to use these funds within their community.”

Coalition partners are also working with local organizations to identify additional families in need of assistance following the storm.
