APD charges 28-year-old woman with felony assault in downtown shooting

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Police Detectives have charged a second person, Ashonta Foursha Basnight, 28, in connection with the March 8 shooting on North Lexington Avenue.

Basnight turned herself in on Friday, March 20 and was charged with:

  • Three felony counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury
  • Five counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • One count of Discharge Firearm in City Limits. 

She was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond.

Previously, another suspect, Calobe Leo Workman, 19, was arrested after turning himself in on March 16, 2026.
